When The Show Is Over

Talking about designer showhouses yesterday, had me wondering what happens after the show.  The showhouse properties are almost always for sale (don't you wonder who buys them? I do!)...but with so many different designers in one spot, the overall decor effect is usually so disjointed, to say the least.  In an effort to hunt down a story about homeowners that have purchased a showhouse, I laughed when I came across this article in New England Home Magazine.  Cindy Rinfret, the designer hired for this former Greenwich, Connecticut design house, referred to it as a "painted lady in distress."  I've seen enough showhouses to know exactly what she meant.  Fortunately, Ms. Rinfret was able to bring the house back to it's former grandeur and even add a lot of fresh new style.

    I have always wondered what happens if someone buys a showhouse - especially when the rooms are often not color-coordinated! Cindy gave this one a beautiful makeover... Love her work!

    Love the way she used blue & white porcelain to tie the home together. Now, the house feels like a real home where people can actually live.

    This one looks wonderful and the reno has really tied it together nicely.

    She did a beautiful job pulling it all together - I agree on them being a painted lady in distress after the show! We have a "Street of Dreams" show in Portland and after the houses are for sale - so I have always wondered about it too!
