So what do YOU call these types of tables?
Coffee or Cocktail?
There really is no wrong or right answer...
and no rhyme or reason as to why I labeled
them the way I did.
{might be my weird mood today}
I need some coffee, or maybe a cocktail!

Love the stained glass window in the 4th picture.
ReplyDeleteI'm your first comment.
Yay
coffee, of course ;)
ReplyDeleteI always called it a coffee table :o) We moved ours out while the little one was crawling/learning to walk. Need to get it back in play now that she's older!
ReplyDeleteI need to coffee for sure! I love the last one:)
ReplyDeleteKisses
some not to:)...Seee! I really need it...hahah
ReplyDeletei always refer to a cocktail table.....i guess since my showroom is quite upscale, I feel cocktail is more appropriate than coffee!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love that third room, it's gorgeous! When it doubt have an after dinner coffee w/ some liquor and whipped cream! xo
ReplyDeletethose are all coffee tables in my book :)
ReplyDeleteand lovely images!
yes coffee now and definitely cocktail later :)
ReplyDeleteand as far as these gorgeous pics-I would take either coffe or cocktail! Love all of these looks. I love the elegance of the first "cocktail" picture.

I noticed that the ones you labeled "cocktails" had more seating (like a party)! Maybe you labeled them subconsciously. I love the space with the zebra bench and large mirror behind it. I would definitely accept an invite for cocktails in that space. Yum! Great post.
ReplyDeleteI always say coffee. Any maybe a coffee flavored cocktail?
ReplyDeletegood point--I always find myself using the two terms interchangeably--start with a coffee and move on to the cocktail!
ReplyDeleteI never gave this any thought until now...great observation! If I'm honest I use both. I think for me the language changes based on the setting and....sometimes the client!
ReplyDeleteCoffee or cocktail? Why can't one fancy both in this sense;-)
ReplyDeletecoffee .. i don't think i ever called them a cocktail table ..
ReplyDeleteI use them both....but not sure of why I choose which, when? Probably cocktail more for the living room? Interesting post.
ReplyDeleteI need a cocktail!!!! I love these photos!
ReplyDeleteI think most could serve as both! Fabulous choices. Now I want a cocktail... or a coffee... ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post and question!!!
ReplyDeleteI usually call them coffee tables, not sure why?
I drink coffee at my desk, like right now :)
xoxo Laura
Fun post! I call the larger tables in family rooms coffee tables and the small, delicate formal area ones cocktail tables - yet you can certainly be formal and drink coffee and around family I always need cocktails!
ReplyDeleteCould they be coffee cocktail tables?? That way, if you're sipping a cocktail with coffee liqueur you've got it covered! Love the first image and the "tree trunk" side table!
ReplyDeletexxoo
Coffee in the morning, cocktail in the evening. I am with THhe BUzz on this one, I love the tree trunk side table. --Gretchen O.
ReplyDeleteCoffee! Though I prefer cocktails to coffee ... hmmm ... I need a skinny skinny one for a narrow part of my living room. Any ideas? It's a pretty traditional room, and I can't find one I love.
ReplyDeleteCoffee table all the way!
ReplyDeleteI call them coffee tables -- although I think cocktail table is probably more appropriate for a table in a formal/elegant room.
ReplyDeleteBTW, LOVE that Monique Lhuillier living room!!
Kelly
I call them coffee, never thought about it though but it can be both!
ReplyDeleteIt almost looks like the ones you labelled 'cocktail' were taller than the others but it might be my lack of coffee yet this morning making my eyes go funny! Either way, they're all great! Is it too early for a cocktail? :)
ReplyDeleteWe call them Coffee table here :)
ReplyDeleteI call them all coffee, but I definitely like cocktail better.
ReplyDeleteI could always go for a cocktail.:) but love coffee! We call them coffee tables. Not sure why though!
ReplyDeleteBoth! I think I switch depending on the mood of the room. Good call, I've always wondered the same thing.
ReplyDeleteWhat Ms. Bright said. Depends on the mood of the room. I always called the coffee tables growing up; then the more I got into the design biz, the more it seemed cocktail was the preferred term. But really, today, anything goes. And btw that first image is perfect!
ReplyDeleteDepends on whose using it. Mine is coffee!
ReplyDeleteHad no idea you could call it a 'cocktail- table'. Never heard of it before. Nice to learn someting new, always is!
ReplyDeleteLove all of the pictures, but the second one is my favourite one.
Hugs!
Coffee table. Although, you got me in the mood for hot chocolate.
ReplyDeleteha ha.. I call then coffee.. but I could do with cocktail too.. :-)
ReplyDeleteHaha, I thought I was missing something at first! Cocktail table is definitely new to me - sounds fancy ;)
ReplyDeleteIn my decorating biz I use both descriptions, with no rhyme or reason why. One thing that's certain though: it's always the hardest piece to find in a room. No idea why that is, either.
ReplyDeleteOf no importance how you call the tables, they are all beautiful! Wonderful post, I really enjoyed it!!

I like the 1st, 3rd, and last!:D
ReplyDeleteI need a cocktail too!:D

I love all of these...does that mean I want a coffee and a cocktail?? Woke up thinking today was Friday only to have my dreams shattered so let's call it cocktail!! So much more fun, too!
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Carrie
I agree with Carrie - I love all of them. I think that makes me an Irish coffee drinker..! :)
ReplyDeleteHoping you are well.
Hugs from Sweden

I've always called them coffee tables, but coffee has always been really big in my family. Right up there next to air.
ReplyDeleteCoffee...with a tray of cocktails!
ReplyDeleteI'd go with coffee! Even though that first room is my favorite and it's perfect looking for cocktails!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful tables! I guess for some reason I've just always called them coffee tables. I wonder if that is a Southern thing? Not that we don't drink cocktails!
ReplyDeleteCoffee tables...if you call your table a cocktail you need a drink asap
ReplyDeleteI could definitely go for a cocktail in room #1 that you posted right about now. :)
ReplyDeleteWell, I start every day with coffee. End a few with cocktails. Realize I actually call them coffee tables. But, I have one room where it should definitely be known as the cocktail table. Or ottoman....since it's not really a table. Ok....does it sound like I've already had a cocktail! :)
ReplyDeleteI'll have the coffee... then the cocktail ;)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE these spaces!!!
I call the table in our family room (off the kitchen-TV/Den/Family room area) a coffee table and in our front 'formal' living space (library really) I call it a cocktail table-
ReplyDeleteWhen we have company the monkeys are all either outside in the pool/trampoline or family room and the adults have drinks outside or in the front room on the cocktail table.
Its funny that you ask this because I am VERY specific about what I call things because otherwise my hubsband and monkeys would have less of an idea what I want of them.
Love love one and three...when in doubt, go with cocktail...! After picking up the kids from school... :)
ReplyDeleteNathalie
Hee hee, it used to be cocktail, now it's coffee! ;)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and funny post!
ReplyDeleteYou just reminded me I need a cocktail!
xo
I've never heard of a "cocktail" table before! They're all coffee tables to me : ) And I love them all.
ReplyDeleteyou know i had to come and see what the story was having known the title. cocktail of course! but then, sometimes i have said coffee....wow, good conversation!

Hmmm, the coffee spaces all look a little warmer, a little cozier -- going to go with those, since it's chilly out!

ReplyDeleteThat first and third photo are so my style!! I guess I AM a cocktail kind of woman ;)
ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful night Love,

I prefer cocktail when it comes to a drink but I always call it coffee when refering to a table. LOL. Great post. Loved all of those images. Especially the 5th one that blue room is divine.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog the other day. Glad you liked it. hugs, c-
Coffee but I have to say mine is used much more as a cocktail one :)
ReplyDeleteafter my work day today, I need one of both!! great post as always!! Have a great Friday!!
ReplyDeleteJust me again... I'm having a Blog Slumber Party, please come join!!
ReplyDeleteUmmmmm a coffee cocktail??? ;) xo
ReplyDeleteYou're hilarious! I would definitely drink a boozy coffee and sit it on any of those coffee/cocktail tables.
ReplyDeleteLet's just call them cofftails and drink to that! Your selections are impeccable per usual :) Thanks for the last smile before I power down and rest the lids. Night!
ReplyDeletexo,
Kelly
Lol....at first I thought, does she wonder if I'd have a coffee in that room or a cocktail?!! Because if you look at the rooms, some are more sofisticated than the others, which in that case I'd prefer a cocktail!
ReplyDeleteBoy, I was way off......lol
Cindy
xo
I think I usually say coffee...although I think cocktail sounds more glamorous!! All of them are quite lovely :)
ReplyDeleteNancy xo
Is is terrible that I read through this whole post debating which room I would rather have coffee or a cocktail in? Hehe! Not till the end did I consider the tables! I always say "coffee table" but, I have to agree with Nancy, cocktail is definitely more glam! Lovely choices!
ReplyDeleteI guess it would depend on the time of day! Coffee in the morning, cocktails in the evening!
ReplyDeleteI always say a coffee table, but I think I like the idea of a cocktail table much better! Have a wonderful weekend...hopefully it involves both coffee, and a few cocktails!
ReplyDeleteI've always called these coffee tables, but I think that sounds so '70s... I might try to update my vocab and start calling 'em cocktail tables. I like its poetry better! Hope you're having a great weekend! :)
ReplyDeleteHA! When I was first reading this post, I thought you were labeling the rooms as more appropriate for coffee or cocktails ... and I also thought that was such a fun way to describe the feel of a room! Regardless, I use the terms interchangeably. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI usually refer to them as coffee tables, but a cocktail table sounds just as equally good.
