Proportionately Pink


Back in January, when Pantone announced this year's color of the year, Honeysuckle (Pantone 18-2120) or to most people..."pink", I must confess, I didn't entirely "get it".  While I've always loved pink florals, clothing and fashion accessories, looking around my house, there isn't one pink decorative object or wall (outside of my daughter's bedroom).  But now that we are six months into the year, I have to admit, pink interiors have really caught my eye.  Suddenly it doesn't seem so "little girlish" any more, but rather really fresh and appealing.  One designer in particular who was way ahead of the curve on this color is Schuyler Samperton.  She designed this room several years ago.

    Its very uplifting, happy and a "feel good" color. I, like you have pink personal accessories but have yet to use it in my home decor. I am going to have a small home office off my bedroom though and I want to do something fun and different than the "more serious" interiors that will be elsewere, and recently saw a fun pink and orange and white paper that was gorgeous so I have pink on my mind too.......stop by, doing a great giveaway for a Kilim bench:)

    Pink is the sort of color that works when counterbalanced by blues and greens in order to avoid coming off as too 'girlish,' as nearly every photo here exhibits.

    'Honeysuckle' is an unexpected name for pink.

    I love splashes of pink in a home, especially when it is the vibrant shade! Although, the only place I have used it is in my daughter's bedrooom. I especially love the color in beach homes, if feels fresh, chic and because it is not a "normal" color to expect I think it causes people to pause and "study" the space!

    I love a little pink here and there -- our guest room walls are the softest pink with window treatments of an amazing fabric from Etamine with big pink and red roses. But it can go wrong pretty quickly.

    This designer is a wonderful example of deft use of an unexpected color. Thanks for keeping us in the pink this morning!

    I had pink bedrooms all growing up so when I was a teenager I vowed never to have a pink room again. Wouldn't you know it though I painted my living room pale pink almost a year ago, but this time I accessorized with lots of black and I don't think it's little girly at all!

    Oh I really like her style. It feel fresh and lovely. For some reason the pink chair makes it all too much for me. But if that weren't there, the room would be a total winner for me.

    I'll take anything pink in a house full of boys! When I realized I would never have a daughter to work that out, I painted our home office purple/pink. It's a Ralph Lauren color and I love it!! Gorgeous room and styling here :) Kelly

    Yes totally agree I didn't quite get it and confidently thought, they're wrong, it's more like coral or orange. But I'm SO guilty of incorporating pink into THREE rooms now in my house! I didn't even realize it. Guess they were right.

    Pink really can pop against darker colors like charcoal and look sophisticated, not little girlish...like the curtains in the gorgeous room about. Love how they mixed the pink with more antique and traditional looking pieces.

    Although I love Schuyler Samperton and think she did a fabulous job here, I am yet to jump on the pink bandwagon, especially of the honeysuckle pink variety. My favorite pink paint color is the F&B pink ground which is what my daughter's room is!!

    There isn't much pink in our house either, though Isabella tries her best in changing that..! :)
    In Summer though I don't mind bringing in pink through flowers (I love big bunches fuschia coloured of bougainvillea that grows in our garden), table wear and the odd cushion. Especially outdoors!

    Even as a "pink" girl....I was dumbstruck when Pantone selected it for the color of 2011. But, i definitely took it as a good omen!

    What do you bet "purple" might just be the color of 2012?!!! :)

    I think this bold shade of pink color is so perfect for the summer decoration especially mixed with the colder white shade!
