Billy Baldwin, the widely influential and famous designer, recommended that interiors should never strive for perfection. Instead, he preferred that people surround themselves with the things they love. I thought of Mr. Baldwin's sound advice when I saw this Wilton, Connecticut home. Spotted in last month's
Town Vibe magazine, the homeowner's decorating strategy for their style was simply to only go with the things they like. And, that's exactly how they chose the pieces they used to furnish their home. Ironically, it looks just perfect! Speaking of Town Vibe, I hope you check out my own feature in this month's issue,
here.
I love every single one of these images, especially the first one. Those chandeliers *and* Bertoia chairs?! Love it.
ReplyDeleteLove this and totally agree with Baldwin's thesis. If you choose what you love it somehow always works together!!
ReplyDeleteI so agree with Billy Baldwin. Too many times, magazines feature interiors that are so perfect, that there is no infusion of life and the spaces leave you cold. My business mantra is "perfect imperfections" such is life after all.
ReplyDeleteAgree wholeheartedly! Love the pictures, those floors are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great decorating philosophy! It reminds me of a quote I have always liked: "Have nothing in your home that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." (Can't remember the source at the moment!) Very cool images!
ReplyDeleteI subscibe wholeheartedly to Mr Baldwin's direction. I only ever have the things that I love around me!
ReplyDeleteLove Billy Baldwin and these photos! & Congrats on your feature in Town Vibe mag!
ReplyDeleteLove the wall paneling in the 3rd photo!
ReplyDeletePS. where did you get your Hermes tray?
I agree! A house can't be a home if you don't decorating with things you love. Great images!
ReplyDeleteLove the name, love you! That was a nice little read, very cool XO, Kelly
ReplyDeleteLove! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteAn eclectic, mixed up style is my favorite. I could agree more with Mr. Baldwin. And the folks who live in this home have done a wonderful job letting their own personalities and styles shine through. A great space.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday!
Jeanne
You're right--this home looks lovely. I especially like how the office looks so functional but retains a flair. That pendant is perfect!
ReplyDelete(I really enjoyed your piece, by the way.)
I love those beam boards- amazing.
ReplyDeleteI love that..surrounding yourself with things you love vs. things that are supposed to be there. And then naturally they probably just all fall into place as is evidenced above. So brilliant! I love it because it looks great, finished, polished, and "done" but looks iniviting and warm at the same time!
ReplyDeleteSo true - when you surround yourself with things you love and that have meaning, I think it creates a warm and enveloping environment. You should always love being and coming home!!!

I couldn't agree more, surround yourself with things you love. So true! xo
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your feature, nice read! I agree with surrounding with things you love because in the end, it's what make you happy when you are at home.

Congrats on the feature! It is a wonderful article!
ReplyDeleteGreat piece for Town Vibe! I always love hearing how people got started.
ReplyDeleteLove them all- that first image is sooo gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteIt is important to remember this advice when our lives are saturated with design sources. Don't go for something just because it is trendy, go with what you truly love and what you will continue to love even it gets put on the "out" list. I also enjoyed your piece in Town Vibe. I love hearing about how successful bloggers, like yourself got started. It is inspiring for those of us who are newer to blog land.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing,
Julie
A big bravo to Billy Baldwin... I strive for "good enough" most of the time and always surround myself with things and people I love. Life's too short to sweat perfection!

Very much enjoyed reading the article and learning about how you began blogging!
ReplyDeleteOne day I went through the main rooms of our house and boxed everything I didn't absolutely love- even special gifts, even expensive designer items- I had no plan- I told myself I might even put things back but I just wanted to see what it was like. The things never went back. I now know exactly what my style is. No more fretting :) btw- fortunately, my husband let's me have free reign as far as design goes!
ReplyDeleteThat home office is amazing! :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous interiors! Definitely like to live with the things that I love :)
ReplyDeleteLoved the article!
ReplyDelete"I was that cliché little girl who spent countless hours rearranging the dollhouse my father made for me... "
Too wonderful!
