Is there a home decor look that you love, but lack the courage to try? For me, it's the idea of hanging artwork on bookcases. I adore this concept in theory, but have yet to employ it in our home. Hoping to possibly inspire myself today, with all of these chic examples...

I think books are one of the best ways to decorate
ReplyDeleteIt is a fab look if one doesn't use what is behind the artwork. That last image has a chic, sassy NYC gal pad look to it...love it!
ReplyDeleteIf there's someone who could pull this off, it would be you! Especially now that you have all your books color coded - right? Wish I had some built-in bookcases to play with (sigh)...

Wow..I truly love this idea...I saw it the other day in a magazine and I thought it looked so cool:)
ReplyDeleteKisses and enjoy your day
Grate selection. I love them all especially the first and fifth images.
ReplyDeleteI love books... the more the better.....
ReplyDeleteLove this- that last picture is my favourite- love everything about it! The yellow sofa, artwork and black bookcases are incredible.
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting post. At Darlington House we have some framed pictures on shelves in our book cases (on easels/not hung on the book case as you show in these photos). Which, along with some small statues, look marvelous among the books. However, they don't last there long since we keep buying more and more books which has required surrendering the space to our ever expanding collection of books. Hanging small framed pictures on the shelves works in isolated cases (I like the way it looks in the fifth photo), but I think hanging a large picture (as shown in the fourth photograph) looks forced. As others of your commenters note, books on shelves always look marvelous, and needn't (should't, really) be covered up with large pictures, which also defeat one's access to the books to read (or look at since many of Reggie's books are full of images)--their primary reason to exist (no matter how decorative they may be!). Great, thought-provoking post, thank you! Reggie
ReplyDeletewow I must admit I have not seen this before. Very unusual but I like it.
ReplyDeleteI keep saying I'm going to do a DIY like the ones in the 2rd photo, but I keep forgetting.
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to attempt something like this and whenever I try it looks a mess.
ReplyDeleteOK, I am so with you on this post! I love the idea, but when I try it, I always take it down and move on. True mystery as to why I can't make it work in my own home. What I have now done instead it so hang the artwork in the bookshelf (I use fishing line and a small nail on the shelf above the picture. That way you don't ruin the backs of your bookshelf and you can adjust the picture to the right height with the fishing line). M.

I dig this, but how do you pull it off technically? Hang the art with tape?
ReplyDeleteIt's funny, the first thing I thought about, being the bookworm I am, is "How do I get to the books if there is art in the way!" Haha, it looks good though :)
ReplyDeleteI love it too.
ReplyDeleteThat last photo is so cute... going in my inspiration file for sure! xo
ReplyDeletei kinda like it!!! the only time it might get annoying is when i want a book behind the artwork. ha - do they not put pictures behind the paintings?! either way - i love the look!
ReplyDeleteSue ~ You know I am loving this post!! Everyone should have some artwork on their bookshelves... if not several pieces :)
ReplyDeleteI´ve seen this idea many times, and like it. I´m thinking it´s not very practical though...
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to try this concept too, but haven't done it yet. Could be due to the fact that I don't have the right bookshelves. I envision a library wall of bookshelves and I all I have right now is one measly one!
ReplyDeleteI "like" it but not sure I "love" it :)
ReplyDeleteAs Billy Baldwin would say: "The best decoration is a roomful of books."
ReplyDeleteI love art hung on bookcases and in windows! These images are beautiful, Sue. Happy Hanukkah!

I love this idea!
ReplyDeleteI also have always wanted to try this. I prefer it when the artwork doesn't totally overtake the bookcase but becomes more of the overall design.
ReplyDeleteI have always loved artwork on bookcases and have such in my home.
ReplyDeleteI've always admired this look - but most of my bookshelves don't that that separation down the middle where I would need to hang them.
ReplyDeleteI think you should go for it!

Love it! I have a small piece of art on my bedroom bookshelves and I love it.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a very cute idea!!! =)

I have mixed feelings about this look. I feel as though it could be really awesome, but most of the time I am not a big fan.
ReplyDeleteI love it! When I get a massive book shelf I am definitely doing this. Right now our shelves are so small any empty space is coveted.
ReplyDeleteI have some on my shelves and loove it:)
ReplyDeleteI always love it when I see it, but I haven't done it either!
ReplyDeleteYou should try it out! I used to have a crystal candle scone hanging from mine in the office. It was kind of fun.
ReplyDeletei've always loved this added touch to bookshelves... I have a Stylish Shelves series via my blog and was working on roundup like this for a post perhaps I’ll just link up this post!! :) I'll let you know when I post it -

I've always loved this look - it really makes a bookshelf into an accessorized feature - all I need is some bookshelves to get me started! well, and lots of books :)
ReplyDeleteOh this is my pet hate!
ReplyDeleteI love this look also and I also like to see a mirror on a bookcase!!!
ReplyDeleteI did a guest post today of my favorite Christmas inspiration images over at Providence Ltd. would love to see you there!!

I adore books and love decorating with them! Especially cocktail table ones. Now if I can only find an inexpensive nice looking cocktail table....then I will be in business! Have a lovely rest of the week!
ReplyDeleteI like the look but how do you get at what is behind the art?
ReplyDeleteinteresting placement,but it looks good
ReplyDeleteI would love to try this in the new home!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration!
Have a a pretty day!
Kristin
I love bookshelves and art, but I'm not sure what I think of it all together. It looks great in print though! how are you Ms. Zhush? I've got a lot to catch up on with your blog...everyone's blogs actually!
ReplyDeleteI spend too much time in my shelves but I too love the look. I wouldn't mind painting my wood floors black or white. The hubby says no way....
ReplyDeleteI love this look but I wonder how do you get the books out?? :)
ReplyDelete~SW
I like it, Sue. Adds a little more interest, right?
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful idea! Never seen this before -- Thanks so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteDo it - once you've tried you won't go back! :)
ReplyDeleteI would be sad that the artwork would cover my book collection. I'm just too proud of it :-)
ReplyDeleteOh, I love these! Books are so inspiring to read and to decorate!
ReplyDeleteI hope you're well!
xo
Yes I too love hanging art on bookcases. Looks wonderful and I particularly love the Douglas Friedman picture. YUM!
