Last Spring, during a show house tour, I stumbled across these babies. Each room was assigned a Broadway show as its' inspiration. This was the "Hair" room, so the mushrooms sort of made sense.
Then, the lovely Alcira of The Nero Chronicles, spotted these at Houston's Urban Market!
So what's going on here? Trend? Coincidence? I have no idea! I just know that I haven't seen this many mushrooms since the seventies. Which makes me wonder what's next, macrame wall hangings?
Hmmm.... I'll take my mushrooms stuffed! xo
ReplyDeletemaybe you're just dreaming it all... :)
ReplyDeleteInteresting... I guess it makes sense that it would be part of a "woodland" trend, together with the fur and the stag's heads. Not sure I would want one in my house though - there wouldn't be "mush room" for anything else ;)
ReplyDeleteThey're sweet but I think more for a playroom than living room. But then again, I want a stuffed lamb rocker for my living room so why not some mushrooms:)
ReplyDeleteClearly these people are on something!!! Fun seeing all the different specimans. I love mushrooms, but prefer mine on a steak, pizza or as an appetizer!
ReplyDeleteNo, no, not macrame!! I liked Aspiring Kennedy's comment except you have documentation! And do you remember the Mushroom Planet books? They were a favorite when I was little. I realize - a bunch of disparate comments - sorry - I guess I'm a little stream of consciousness this morning.
ReplyDeleteI love shrooms but usually in my food! The spotty ones would look cute around our fire pit but I don't think I'd really have anywhere inside for one. And hey, macrame wall hangings might just come back - my mom still has hers in the basement so she's way ahead of the game :)
ReplyDeleteThey are so much fun!
ReplyDelete3" granite mushroom that I just purchased recently from an estate sale. I thought it was so cute. I had to have it.
ReplyDeleteI think I will keep my mushrooms on food too....although these rooms are fun to look at. I have to admit when I saw the title pop up on my blogroll I instantly thought of college (not that I partook....but it was a popular party appearance...)
ReplyDeleteThey're so cute and rustic - the first one made me smile :)
ReplyDeleteThey have a real '70's vibe to them, not really my favorite era for style, but they do make for great conversation starters.
ReplyDelete:o) I love the little red mushroom in your first picture. It looks similar to the pincushions I'm making for my friend and my daughter for Christmas... (sh!)
ReplyDeleteI love those Anthro mushrooms they are so cute!
ReplyDeleteHa, yes, very groovy. Not sure they're for me. The ones in the AD article look wooden and more organic (is that possible?). For some reason I like those more. Who knows, I could jump on the shroom bandwagon sometime probably just as they're on the way out!
ReplyDeleteSue,
ReplyDeleteOh I know I used to decoupage them as gifts waaaay back when!! I do like the 1st Anthro image, that IS adorable!

Well, it makes no difference if they are at the grocery store or designer store...they are always expensive! I'll go with the crochet...that's really cute stuff going on there :)
ReplyDeleteI love that themed room - sounds like a cool place to take a tour :)
ReplyDeleteGood eye for spotting these! Not my cup of tea but they are fun though.
ReplyDeleteWould be darling for a playroom or maybe one in concrete in the garden. Interesting post, Sue.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day.

This is just too weird..I wish I saw this post before I did my post on mushrooms b/c my son was a mushroom for Halloween...much like the Alice in Wonderland Mushroom. I am truly not trying to promote my blog, but I need to send you the link just to show you how weird, maybe Mushrooms are popular again????:

I have a lil pin cushion mushroom that I just love. Hmm maybe it is a trend? =)
ReplyDeleteMelanie's Randomness
Oh how gorgeous! I had not even thought of these before as the use of stools. HOw fun.

p.s. Be sure to enter my jewelry necklace giveaway when you get the chance!
Who knew mushrooms were so stylish? I love the second photo. So well done!
ReplyDeleteZhushkita, thanks so much for the 'shroomy shout-out ;)
ReplyDeleteMethinks we're all in need of a mind trip to carry us far from the cares of this crazy world.
Happy Turkey Day to you and yours, Alcira

No, you're not hallucinating... I've seen mushrooms everywhere, too! My favorite are on Anna Weatherly plates!
ReplyDeletehaha! I actually love the mushroom ottoman look! pretty cute!
ReplyDeleteThis is so funny Sue! I've been enamored with shrooms for years and have them tucked throughout my home. A funny story... when my son's high school friends would come over they'd inevitably ask my son what's up with your Mom and all the shrooms everywhere? Now, you've inspired me to do a post on my mushroom love :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Sue!!!!
XO
I forgot to mention that if you go to my current post you will see my mushroom sculpture in the corner of my dining room.
ReplyDeleteI bought it at a local nursery. It's made out of tree branches and wood by a local artist in Santa Cruz, Ca.
It's God's Art to me, slightly manipulated!!
xo
Good eye to spot them all. I think the anthro one is my favorite. I don't really see mushrooms getting too big, but who knows?
ReplyDeleteHave a very Happy Thanksgiving!!
I don't know if I can really get into this one, although the Anthro mushroom is cute!

macrame wall hangings, so funny! yeah, i'm not sure if i'm digging them or if they are just sort of strange. i suppose to really throw off a space, adding one in an unexpected room would be fun, but also perhaps in a children's room? something to ponder i suppose. or hallucinate over? ;)
ReplyDeletethis could become my new obsession
ReplyDeleteI am afraid you might be right.........macrame! I got kicked out of a macrame class in the 70's, my cousin and I were laughing too much and disrupting all the intent learners. Never did learn macrame but do remember the giggles. XO
ReplyDeletedefinitely fun to look at. oh no, macrame...i hope not! ha ha ha. great post. the first shroom is cute, too! xxoo
ReplyDeleteI really thought I left a comment, don't ya know mushrooms are the new owls and bell bottoms are the new skinny jean!
ReplyDeleteI love mushrooms, the edible kind! :)
pve
Looks like a trend is developing! I'm usually not a fan of the edible kind, but I love these quirky, fun designs. Wonder where we'll see them next?

OMG, those little stools...SO darn cute!
ReplyDeleteInteresting trend ... reminds me of Mario Bros though! Not sure if I would do it in my home.
ReplyDeleteHave a real crush on mushrooms. They did a massive come back a couple of years ago in the world of children's interiors and art. They came along with the 'forest trend' along with owls, stags, squirrels and foxes.
ReplyDeleteAlso. In Sweden they are big around Xmas (and I don't mean in a magic way.. though that would help with the darkness I am sure.. :). There is a design classic 'candle stick' in a mushroom shape that is very popular.
Just generally, I think mushrooms look great and add a playful twist to adult environments as well. Love the 'Cote de Texas' pic.
xx C
(Didn't expect me to spring into 'essay mode' at the sight of a mushroom did ya..!?! :)... Ha ha!
Perhaps in a play room! Fun to look at.
ReplyDeleteNot for me, I barely eat them...
I haven't noticed them out and about, but I bet I will now that you pointed them out. Maybe it's a little mini-trend? Need to see if they are popping up on fabrics (especially quilting fabrics). I'll keep my eyes open!
ReplyDeleteKeep on talking and sharing! I LOVE mushrooms. Especially Chantarelles. Will be part of our Thanksgiving spread.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving, Sue. To you and your beautiful family.
Love to you, Mon
Oh my goodness, you have such a good eye to spot all of these Sue!! This is no coincidence in my mind, this is a trend! Great trendspotting :)
ReplyDeleteNancy xo
Mushrooms and macrame! I feel ten years old again! haha! Love it!
ReplyDeleteHave a pretty day!
Kristin
I'm also noticing the shroom trend and I actually think it's pretty cute. But what I really love is the "LOVE" neon sign. Looks so pretty and unexpected in that room.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Also love your little zhushlettes. Very cute.
When I went back to my alma mater a few weeks ago, they had an entire mushroom display set up outside. The trend is definitely on the rise back, and I do like it, especially the first photo of the stitched mushroom.
ReplyDeletedude...... she said shrooms........ that is like totally groovy..........duuuude....
ReplyDelete:)
i like the AD pic though seriously.
Mushrooms are super-cute and always remind me of Super Mario Brothers.
